Blueridge Cats

About Us

Before I was born my parents had always had cats. The first cat that I remember was a Ginger and white Tom named Jasper. He was huge and had a 15inch neck. He was so loving, always curling up on your lap or lying in your arms like a baby. He died when I was 14 and it broke my heart.

I was introduced to the British Shorthair around my late twenties. There was a cat in the neighbourhood that used to walk on my garden fence, he was BEAUTIFUL. A big blue boy. At that time I was not aware that this cat was showing me my future. I didn’t even know what breed he was, only that I just had to find out more about him.

For years I was owned by stray cats and at one point I had ten of them, all living in harmony in the house.  I never forgot the Blue Boy but with so many cats that had adopted me, it didn’t seem right to go out and actually buy another cat!!! The years went by and one by one my cat family passed away. I returned to Wales in 2000 with four of my cats. Within two years I only had 2 left. My beautiful Sontag and Foxy.

Sontag passed away in June 2008, he was 15 years old and had fought bravely against cancer. Foxy who is now 14 years old  become ill through grief. My husband and I decided to get Foxy a companion and that was when the BIG BLUE BOY jumped into my head. My search began for a British Shorthair and I was honoured to find Degas, or to be proper Bowberry GoldenEye. Degas was shortly followed by Monet. Monet was never planned so to speak, but I could not resist him and now I could not imagine life without my amazing Monet. But Monet did something more important, he introduced me to Vanessa and Colin of Busykitz. They have become true friends and advisors. They have helped me in all aspects of the British shorthair and Colin built this incredible website…Thank you!!

It is now 2012 and after reading the above, I realised how much things have changed. I didn't want to erase the above, as it is part of our history, we still show and breed British Shorthair Cats and the numbers have grown. It has been a wonderful journey which I am pleased to say had more ups than downs.

In 2011, my husband and I found an amazing property just a few miles from where we lived. It needed (and still needs) a lot of work doing to it, but the most important factor was that it came with over an acre of land. It took 6 months to build the cattery and whilst we still live out of boxes and our builders have become part of the family!!

Our cats enjoy the luxury of a brand new cattery built for space with secure outdoor runs. We did have one major problem with the move and that was with our house cats/companions. There was no way we could move them into the new house with all the builders in and out. There was no secure outdoor area for them to enjoy and we were worried they would get out and hurt. So….. we decided to give them their own address. The Cat House. Our new home came with a 4 bedroom bungalow which was used as a holiday let. Now our cats live in it!!! And they love it. No wonder I am known as "The crazy Cat woman" in the Village.
